Bangladesh atrocities under review

Harrow East MP Bob Blackman hosted a discussion on the plight of religious minorities in Bangladesh amid the recent reported atrocities against Hindus, Buddhists and Christians.

Antonia Filmer reports in the Sunday Guardian that the meeting was held under the initiative of human rights lawyer Samir Kumar Das. The paper reports that freedom of thought and conscience is guaranteed by the Bangladesh Constitution yet it appears that that international systems are powerless to stop these atrocities.

In the last few months, countless numbers of ordinary citizens and innocent foreign citizens have been brutally killed because of their religious belief or for secular thinking.

The Islamists attacked the Ram Thakur Ashram and vandalised 10 temples and puja pandals including Mongola, Nabadurga, Bijoya, Trishul and Koatbari Puja Pandal. About 20 houses were attacked in Nalchira, Chayanibazar, Begumgonj, Choumohoni and Sonaimuri. At the same time, 9 temples and puja pandals were vandalised at Choumohoni in Noakhali.

Lama Hari temple and another 4 temples were vandalized and looted money and all Jewelries of the idols in Bandarban.
