Happy Republic Day 2018
It is India’s 69th Republic Day as the country portrays its pomp and prowess in the new era of Modi power. On 26th January 1950, three years after Independence, the Indian Constitution was adopted as the governing document of the country.
The day is famed for the Republic Day parade at India Gate in New Delhi. International dignitaries are invited each year. There have been some notable firsts including President Obama, the first US leader to attend in 2015. This year, in another first, there was the presence of ten heads of state from ASEAN as Chief Guests.
Leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN - Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Brunei - were hosted by India this year
Each year the parade includes the participation of the Armed Force. Reported in NDTV, this year also included tableaux of states celebrating the great diversity of India, performances from students and the most-awaited, motorbike stunts by 113 women from the Border Security Force (BSF). The President of India, who presides over the parade addressed the nation on the eve of Republic Day.
